Planning a Vintage Inspired Garden Wedding was a dream come true for us. The wedding went off without a hitch, and we gained some fantastic DIY Wedding Tips for those on a budget! Weddings may be costly, as we all know, but they don’t have to be. I believe that if you think outside of the usual “money pit” box and are ready to DIY your way to the altar, you can say “I do” without going into debt! I’m going to share some of our wedding photography advice with you today, as well as show you a ton of wedding photos!!
Let’s start with the ceremony, because we need to get married first before we can enjoy the celebration! Here are a few money-saving ideas for your big day.
I Create My Own Ceremonial Seating.
Renting a venue is expensive, so having your wedding outside or at any free site is ideal, but you’ll also have to provide all of your own furniture. Although renting chairs is a possibility, we were able to save a few hundred dollars by constructing our own.
Trees that fell down during the massive ice storm we had last winter were ideal for cutting down into logs to utilize as the foundations. We made unique seating out of 212 boards, which went perfectly with our vintage garden aesthetic while also saving us money.
We skipped the flowers and instead went with paper pinwheels because I didn’t want to employ a florist to make bouquets for the wedding. We made them out of scrapbook paper and wood dowels. Each bridesmaid walked down the aisle with a big pinwheel, which looked amazing! We did make a bouquet for the bride, but it was obviously done by us.
Later this week, we’ll publish the pinwheels’ simple tutorial, as well as some advice on how to construct your own bridal bouquet! The important thing to remember is that you don’t have to do the same thing as everyone else for your wedding! Carrying a paper pinwheel or even a pizza box down the aisle is permitted by the wedding police.
We don’t use the Aisle Runner.
Although paper aisle runners and petals aren’t going to break the bank, we wanted to do something a little more fun and whimsical for the wedding. We wanted to make sure that there was plenty of fun at this vintage-inspired garden wedding, which had a lot of adult elements.
We purchased four bags of pompoms from a craft store, and let me tell you, they received the most enthusiastic response from the wedding guests and the cute flower girls who were tasked with scattering them. One of the flower girls was my aunt’s daughter, who was beaming from ear to ear as she lined the aisle for the bride!
We developed an incredible ceremony site right in front of my house! I couldn’t believe how much it had changed in such a short period of time.
Now we’ll go on to some budget-friendly reception advice. We could give so many suggestions, but this post would be too long, so we’ll just list a few of our favorites.
I Create Simple And Beautiful Place Settings With Low-Cost Items.
Yes, we used a Costco plastic dish at a wedding! They don’t appear to be much on their own, but we used craft shop supplies to make a modest place setting for each guest. They didn’t even notice the Costco plates, trust me!
We spent next to nothing on mini terra-cotta pots, hand-stamped tags created from shipping labels, and plastic silverware disguised with imitation berries and string! If your budget allows, don’t be scared to go with plastic plates and silverware—just make them the cutest your guests have ever seen!
I Create My Own Centerpieces and Draw Inspiration from Nature.
Because we had so many dead trees to work with, we decided to use them as planters for our succulent centerpieces. Did you think I could plan an entire wedding without incorporating succulents? We bought succulents in bulk online and saved a lot of money! We received 144 succulents in our purchase, with a wide range of styles.
Consider what free containers you have for your centerpieces and then explore online for wholesale flower possibilities. We discovered that the sales were constantly changing, and that there were some really good ones if we bought in bulk.
I Made a Simple Drinking Station.
We made some powdered drink mixes with a little help from the internet. With fresh strawberries and seltzer water, Country Time Lemonade tastes great! We bought cheap drink containers from Target, put chalk labels, and then sliced up some smaller tree logs to make drink stands. It was so cheap, yet it looks like the kind of luxury drink station that would be perfect as a “add-on” at a conventional wedding location.
I Create Exciting Photo Opportunities!
It’s all about giving visitors the whole experience during weddings. You want it to be an event that they actively participate in rather than just attend. It’s all about the pictures, and setting up several settings for exciting photo ops doesn’t have to be expensive.
Renting a Photo Booth is a lot of fun, but it’s not always in the budget. That doesn’t mean you can’t take a ton of photos of your friends and family having a good time! Around the yard, we hung vintage doors from our favorite salvage store and placed small banners urging guests to take photos and have a good time!
