It is not necessary to spend a lot of money on a stunning winter wedding. Not only are wedding venues cheaper in the winter, but you can arrange a stunning wedding on a shoestring budget with a little DIY effort and budget-friendly decor choices.
You can have a winter wonderland wedding on a small budget, thanks to low-cost wedding invitations and DIY winter wedding décor. Take a look at these planning ideas to get some ideas.
Our Winter Wedding Budget Plan
When I see budgets in bridal magazines for how much couples are spending on their weddings, I am astounded.
It appears that $30,000 weddings have become the standard, while my $10,000 wedding is regarded as a bargain.
Many of my acquaintances who have heard about our budget believe it will be difficult for me to plan everything for less than $10,000.
Fortunately, I’ve realized that getting more for less is perfectly doable thanks to travel rewards. You may save thousands of dollars with just a little early work.
Our wedding will be held in the winter.
Winter weddings are less popular, so there is less competition for dates and prices are lower.
We found that renting out our favorite venue in the winter was $3000 less expensive than renting out in the summer when we compared costs by season.
Another site we considered offered a $25 per person bonus package if we booked a winter date. For a 100-person wedding, that’s a $2500 discount.
We were always planning on having a winter wedding because we wanted to do something unique for our wedding, so this was not a big concern for us. Winter weddings delight us!
The least expensive months of the year appeared to be January and February. In this price range, many of the more expensive places we looked at provided large discounts. This can be a terrific option for couples who have their hearts set on a specific venue but are more flexible about the time of year.
However, keep in mind that costs rise throughout the holiday season. In December, venues that host business Christmas parties double their fees. From Christmas to New Year’s Eve, prices also rise.
Another way we’re saving money for our wedding is by having it on a Friday, which is a wedding no-no.
By holding the wedding on a Friday night rather than a Saturday night, we were able to save $1200.
We regret that our guests may be inconvenienced, but scheduling the wedding on a Friday saved us a significant amount of money.
Weddings on Sunday morning brunches and weeknight evening weddings will save even more money for couples.
We’re footing the bill for the wedding.
Staying in control is the easiest approach to reduce the stress of arranging a low-cost wedding.
Weddings, I believe, drive even the most well-intentioned people insane.
I’ve been startled by how impassioned my parents will become about wedding decisions, for example.
My fiancé and I will pay for the wedding ourselves in order to avoid any potential dispute. On several occasions, my parents and his parents have offered to help with the wedding (especially when we decline something lavish that they recommend), but we have declined.
Even a $10,000 wedding for a five-hour ceremony seems a bit excessive to me. Whether the money comes from my fiancé and me or from our parents is irrelevant.
Taking money from your parents to pay for the wedding may also contribute to your anxiety. Your parents will then be involved in critical decisions that will have a major impact on the wedding, such as the guest list and the venue.
I’ve had to remind my parents several times that they had the opportunity to organize their wedding. It’s my turn now!
Budget for Foods
Food for weddings is exorbitant. The most expensive part of a wedding budget is usually the food, which can cost more than $100 per person.
I was worried that we wouldn’t be able to provide excellent meals at a fair price for our wedding. We needed to stay under $100 per person with a $10,000 budget and a guest list of 110. Even at $75 per person, there was little left over to cover other costs like music and décor. We set a $7000 food budget for ourselves.
When I told certain wedding venues our budget, they offered me a menu of appetizers and told me that a full sit-down supper would be difficult at this price. At this pricing point, neither stations nor buffets were a possibility.
I kept trying because it seemed ludicrous to spend $7000 on appetizers. One venue sneered and said they “were a nice luxury dining place” and couldn’t work with our budget, even for appetizers.
Look for a location that collaborates with caterers.
I began exploring the weddingbee message boards for conversations about less expensive wedding venues in the area where we will get married. I came across a post where people talked about how much money they saved by renting out an estate for the night and hiring their own caterers.
Jackpot. I heard of a historic mansion from the 1700s that was gorgeous and appeared to be less pricey in one of the blogs. We fell in love with the location after our first visit. It was quaint, historic, and most importantly, inexpensive while still looking elegant.
We should pick one of the venue’s recommended caterers. The majority of caterers charge more than $100 per person, however the venue coordinator informed us that one caterer was ready to work with lesser costs.
How much did my wedding invites cost?
My wedding invites were just delivered. The price I paid is listed below. Keep in mind that the stamps cost me around $80. I required nine stamp books to stamp the outside of the envelope as well as the RSVP cards.
I bought roughly ten extra invitations to give myself some leeway if something went wrong. I have a lot of buddies who are single. The number of invitations you need to send is reduced if you’re inviting predominantly couples and families.

According to bride.com, a wedding invitation suite can cost hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. With a $10,000 wedding budget, I can’t rationalize spending hundreds of dollars on paper that will most likely be thrown away by everyone save my mother.
