I wanted to throw a very memorable dinner gathering. My guests were the most wonderful people I’ve ever met… our entire family! This supper was simply magical, and I made it entirely myself using do-it-yourself skills.
Today, I’m going to show you how to throw a dinner party in your backyard. This is something that you can accomplish as well.
Backyard Dinner Party Ideas
Our entire family was in town, and I wanted to set the stage for an unforgettable dinner celebration. I created a lovely night complete with decorations, lights, ambiance, superb wine, and home-cooked food.
It took me a long time to decide where we should have dinner. While we’ve had a number of parties in our garden, I’d never done anything poolside before. As a result, I chose the area in front of our pool.
Party Decorations
Decorations are a terrific way to personalize your party. Consider who you’re inviting. If some of your guests are children, including games or child-safe embellishments in your decorations to make them more fun and interactive. Keep it elegant with subtle centerpieces and excellent linens for a classy affair.
Vintage Porch
I purchased some antique vintage porch posts a few years ago. I had previously used them to create an outdoor dining area and intended to do it once more.
These porch pillars were purchased at a vintage sale, but they may also be found on Facebook Marketplace.
Because the vintage porch posts had a hole in them, I worked out that I could partially support them by pounding stakes into the ground.
Then I slid another board over the frame’s middle top. I installed three strings of cafe lights that I had purchased a few years ago and had already used several times!
I needed some greenery on the top board, so I asked my husband to trim our tree. He happily agreed, and I arranged the little branches across the top. I used green floral wire to secure them.
Table Setting
Charges, tablecloths, and dinnerware make up a huge part of my collection. I decided that copper accents would be interesting, so I chose a burlap runner, woven placemats, and copper chargers.
The flower centerpieces were crafted by myself, and I added my favorite copper candlesticks. These copper candlesticks are only $21 for three!
I adore how the table turned out. My circuit machine was used to make the place cards.
The table grew more gorgeous as the evening went and the sun set.
The lights were one-of-a-kind, and they created the ideal poolside setting. The table was simple, yet it provided the ideal setting for our family to come together.
Copper Place Cards
I used my Cricut machine to make these place cards. I use the Cricut Maker, but any machine that cuts cardstock will do. These were a breeze to create.
Enter the names of people who will be attending your party in the Cricut Design. Change the font to anything you wish.
I did have to tweak the words to get all of the letters to go together. This is required so that the words are clipped as a single object.
Flower Arrangements
I hadn’t been to the store in three months, so I took a gamble and had my Instacart shopper select flowers for me. All I asked for was “white flowers,” and I must give the wonderful gentleman a lot of credit for selecting these flowers!
I like to use ball jars as vases because they are inexpensive and numerous in our home. For these arrangements, I used 16 oz. ball jars.
The first thing I did was go out to my backyard and hack down some hydrangeas. These were exactly what I needed to fill my vases with larger flowers.
After that, I cut all of the flowers from the grocery store and arranged them in the ball jars. Take a look at how short the blossoms are. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve finished a flower arrangement and placed it on the table only to discover it was too tall! I’d say the total height of these vases is around 12 inches.
I utilized things I already had to finish the rest of the table. Last year, I bought placemats, copper chargers, and table runners.
I’m quite sure this is the zillionth time I’ve used these. My favourites are the candlesticks, and they’re only $7 a piece! Wedgewood Edme plates are available for a very reasonable price.
While it isn’t exactly part of the table arrangement, I do think of my family’s comfort. To allow guests to completely relax, I draped a blanket or shawl over the back of each chair or added an outside pillow to each seat.
