How to Politely Remind People to RSVP for Your Wedding
RSVPs are useful for a variety of reasons. Yes, RSVP cards let you know which of your guests will and will not be attending your wedding, but they also allow you to provide an accurate meal count to your vendors, create table assignments, and even tell you where guests are staying and which wedding events they’ll be attending. This means that not receiving all of your RSVP cards can be a huge pain.
Here’s how to politely remind guests to RSVP and get them to mail the card.
Personalize it
Don’t send a group email to everyone who didn’t RSVP if you decide email is the best way to reach your guests. Instead, sending a personalized message to each guest or couple ensures that no one feels embarrassed in front of your other friends and family.
Keep a warm tone in the note and express how much the person’s presence would mean to you, but inform them that you need a final guest count as soon as possible.
Enlist Your Parents
Speaking of family members, if they haven’t RSVP’d, check with whichever of your parents is closest to them to see if they’ve heard anything before making the call. Is your mother’s cousin dragging her feet? It might be easier to get an answer if Mom makes the call instead. The same is true for your parents’ visitors: a gentle nudge from your parents may be all that is required.
Time Your Reminders Correctly
When it comes to following up with guests, timing is everything. Don’t start making phone calls on August 4th if your RSVP deadline is August 3rd. Because many cards were likely mailed right before the deadline, allow three or four days (or a week if you can spare it) for the post office to pick up and deliver the cards to you.
