Party Decorations
Your child will have begun school at the age of five, and not only will they have made many more friends, but they will also have become a regular at their classmates’ birthday parties, giving them a better understanding of the party format and what to expect.
This isn’t to say they won’t be intimidated by large groups on occasion – particularly if they’re the center of attention! If your child is shy, a huge venue with a lot of people could make them even more shy, so throwing their five-year-old party at home in familiar circumstances might be more pleasurable for them.
Otherwise, there are a variety of inside locations to pick from that cater to a variety of budgets, so why not check out some of our other inside party alternatives below?
At five years old, your child will be more conscious than ever that it is their birthday, but this also means that their expectations for activities, decorations, a theme, food, and everything else will be higher than ever.
Whether it’s dance, football, swimming, or theater, they’ll have developed their own interests and hobbies, which can make for a terrific birthday theme. Other than that, classic themes like princesses, superheroes, animals, or a favorite TV show like PAW Patrol will work great.
You can make or buy decorations such as bunting and balloons, prepare themed food, and encourage your guests to dress appropriately (which could be extremely cute!).
A party at your own house is also a terrific way to keep costs down while also giving you more control over who you invite and how long the party lasts. However, keep an eye on the numbers; you don’t want to add to the stress by having a completely packed house!
Party Games & Activities
Your child will be old enough to appreciate an activity party by the age of five, and it’s a terrific way for them to do something new than the parties they’ve attended previously. Many dance schools will organize dance parties with games and music, and some football teams will host mini soccer parties, both of which can be a lot of fun for kids under the age of five.
An hour to an hour and a half will be plenty to exhaust the children.
Cupcakes Decorating
This is a fun party activity that will require some preparation. You can either buy pre-made cupcakes or bake them yourself; the only requirement is that there is enough area for the youngsters to decorate them.
You’ll need a variety of items, including fun cake toppers, edible transfers, pre-made icing sugar, and a plethora of sprinkles in bowls ready for tiny hands to explore.
You may supply aprons and chef hats, and the best part is that the guests can eat their cupcakes after they’ve finished decorating them.
Crafting
Who doesn’t enjoy a good ol’ fashioned stick? Invest in a couple dirty mats or shift the party to the garden if you don’t want to deal with the mess.
Set up multiple tables with various art supplies so that your visitors can roam around the various art stations; a parent should be present at each table to assist.
Making a paper chain snake, finger painting, and clay modeling are just a few of the possibilities.
Water Games
If you want your party to create a splash, host a water party. Children can come in their swimsuits and bring spare clothes and a towel. You can have a beach theme with; inflatable palm trees, a paddling pool, deck chairs and beach towels. Set up outdoor music with music from Moana.
Game ideas include slip and slide, hook the duck, set up a sprinkler, and water balloon or water pistol fight.
Food and Drink Ideas
Fill a cardboard meal box for each child if you’re anxious about their being enough food to go around. That way, you can rest assured that no one will be left out, and they can always take it home if they’re having too much fun to eat.
Small hot dogs, mini pizzas, and finger sandwiches will go over well during the party (and the adults can eat some, too!). Include carrot or cucumber sticks, as well as slices of melon, banana, and strawberries, to add some healthful options.
Sticking to water or milk for drinks is the healthiest option. If you wish to give fruit juice or smoothies to your five-year-old, the NHS recommends that you limit them to one 150ml glass per day, served with a meal.
Fizzy beverages and squashes with added sugar are not recommended for children by the NHS, thus they should be avoided. If you want to serve them as a party favor, serve them after the dinner so that they get something nutritional as well.
Keep food and drink in a dedicated room or the garden if you’re at home and don’t want to damage your furniture or carpets. You’ll be glad you did it later!
Birthday Cake Ideas
Depending on how much of a baker you are, there are a variety of birthday cake alternatives!
Most supermarkets sell themed birthday cakes, or you can call your local cake maker for something more customized if you’re having a themed party and want the cake to match. Your five-year-old is sure to like seeing all of their favorite things in icing form!
Buy a store sponge cake and add the personalized embellishments yourself for a middle-ground hack. The kids won’t know the difference, and it’s a simple method to make something one-of-a-kind for a minimal cost.
