I couldn’t wait to show you all the details of the celebration since it turned out so cute! Let me tell you a little more about the party, as well as some suggestions for throwing your own black and white birthday bash.
Monochrome Birthday Decorations
The majority of our black and party décor was focused on the food and smash cake, which is the main feature of a first birthday celebration.
The geometric party fans in black and white added a beautiful geometric accent to the wall. I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out hexagons and the happy birthday inscriptions. The letters were adhered to the hexagons with a glue stick, and the words were adhered to the wall with adhesive dots.
This monochrome 12×108′′ striped table runner was the right foundation for the rest of the table design. That gadget is the ideal size for our industrial table.
I got this huge balloon on Amazon and hung it from the ceiling with a variety of black, silver, and white balloons. A similar black, white, and silver balloon combination can be found here.
I lined the high chair with the same ribbon as the cake stand, and I hot glued a pom pom ribbon on the backside to make it a little more cute. I’m really pleased with how the high chair turned out.
I got her little hat from Fancy That, a local party store, and hot glued a pom to the top. I had hats for the other kids to wear as well.
Her attire was a pleated tutu black dress I found on Amazon, and I added “Birthday Girl” to the front with some blush pink HTV I had on hand.
You may have noticed our modern advent calendar and the ladder I constructed. We utilized the ladder to save all of Maggie’s monthly photos as well. I printed the images, punched a hole in the top, and used black twine to tie them to the ladder rungs.
I used leftover black number stickers from the advent calendar to affix each month’s number on the back of the photographs in case they spun around.
Because I utilised my Heidi Swapp light box in her monthly photos, I thought it would be great to include it into her party decor as well. If you don’t already have one, they’re a lot of fun to use and come with a lot of funny sayings and embellishments.
Party Foods
Naturally, we’ll begin with the food. Because it works best with nap times and bedtime, we held our party in the afternoon.
With a chocolate-covered almond on top, we offered these black and white tiny parfaits. As I previously stated, when it comes to party planning, you must concentrate on your abilities and the parts that you enjoy performing.
That means paying greater attention to the decor and tying everything together with small elements for me. Making gourmet desserts and elegant dishes from scratch is neither my expertise nor my passion. We bought store-bought brownies for the parfaits, much to my mother’s chagrin. Saving a little time is well worth it.
When preparing a party, look for small details that can help you save a few minutes here and there so you can enjoy both the planning and the party itself.
Party Cakes
A simple chocolate cake topped with cream cheese frosting and black gel piping around the edges.
Joann’s cake toppers were only a few dollars. To attach thick striped ribbon from the craft store, I used glue dots.
We used these black tulip cupcake wrappers to make chocolate chip cupcakes, which we topped with chocolate wrapped almonds as well. These wrappers aren’t your normal cupcake liners, which I adore. On the table, they looked really cute!
Every celebration necessitates cute straws that are in keeping with the theme. They’re almost a requirement. As a result, we serve milk.
We had ordinary milk and coconut milk available, supplied in jars we got from buying fresh chocolate milk at the butcher market, because half of my family is lactose intolerant.
To hold straws and pretzel sticks, I used one of our black stoneware mugs from Target’s Hearth and Hand line. They were a fantastic match for the party’s theme!
We also had chocolate dipped huge pretzel sticks and white and black dipped shortbread pastries.
These are the black and white cafe paper plates that we utilized, and these black napkins that I purchased are incredible! They’re very high-quality and incredibly silky!
Party Games and Activities
Ain’t no fun birthday party without amusing games and activities to do. I planned some entertaining games for my guests. And here’s the ideas!
Balloon Challenge
I came up with amusing things to do, such as hop on one leg while singing Mary had a little lamb. The paper messages are then placed into the balloons. Inflate them and tie them up. You’ll need a large number of balloons, one for each color. Allow the children to mix and toss the balloons, instructing them to catch one of each color.
The person who receives it has the option to pop it and complete the task on the provided note paper. They are then given a prize and are not allowed to participate in the following round. This continues until there are no remaining balloons.
The Freeze Game
This is a popular game that may be played by anyone. Allow the children to congregate in a single location. The music is controlled by one person or an adult, and the children are free to move and dance. Everyone must freeze when the music is turned off. Anyone seen moving is disqualified from the game.
Party Favors
I think the party favors are my favorite part of the entire event! I trimmed down some cellophane bags to accommodate one Little Debbie Swiss Roll and then glued a bag topper to each bag.
For the kids with allergies, I made care to add a few bags with toys from the dollar shop.
We had a great time at her party, and it was a great day to celebrate surviving a year as a mom of three! This is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had, but it’s also the most challenging.
