When you were a kid, did you enjoy Strawberry Shortcake? I did, particularly because of her strawberry-scented red hair! Those tiny dolls were the most enjoyable to play with. Strawberry Shortcake and her companions are still popular characters today, and a berry excellent way to spark a berry fun celebration! If your daughter adores her as well, use the ideas below to plan a Strawberry Shortcake party.
Strawberry Shortcake Birthday Party Ideas
For our little girl’s second birthday, we decided to host a Strawberry Shortcake and friends themed birthday party for her. Since her birthday is at the end of April, we will host it outside in our backyard. If the weather is inclement, we can easily move the festivities inside of our home.
Keeping with the theme of the birthday, we will have a special Strawberry Shortcake sundress with matching alligator bow clips made for our little girl in turquoise and pink colors. We thought this was very appropriate since Tea is the name of Apple Dumpling’s pet turtle and Apple Dumpling is Strawberry Shortcake’s little sister and of course will be one of our little girl’s friends attending the birthday!
Party Decorations
For this party, it’s all about pink, red, and white for your color scheme. Balloons, streamers, confetti, and tulle to make the room and party chairs fancy are all appropriate to make this party extra sweet
Make your balloons look like strawberries by blowing up red balloons and drawing black seeds all over each one. Bunch these around the front door to the party or scatter around the party yard (with weights attached) to make a strawberry field.
On the front door, hang a banner that says “Welcome to Strawberryland!”. Also add colorful balloons to your entry area to attract your guests attention.
Don’t forget the strawberries. Cut out large strawberries from red construction paper and decorate your front door with them, hang them with fishing line from the ceiling, place them on the backs of the party chairs, and have a strawberry path leading to your front door.
Play Strawberry Shortcake music throughout your party. For a table centerpiece, gather up your child’s Strawberry Shortcake dolls (or maybe you still have yours) and place them in the center of the table. These sweet Strawberry Shortcake ideas will really make your party a hit.
Cake and Snack Ideas
The cupcakes will be homemade with a vanilla pound cake topped with homemade whipped cream and topped with a sliced strawberry with a little toothpick of Strawberry Shortcake on top. Each cupcake will be placed in a Strawberry Shortcake cupcake paper holder.
After cake and ice cream the party will end with Strawberry Shortcake cardboard boxes each containing homemade multi-colored sprinkled sugar cookies in the shape of strawberries in each box with a thank-you birthday note from the Birthday Girl.
The Birthday Girl will thank each of her friends for coming and have them sing Strawberry Shortcake’s “The Cookie Song” as a final good-bye. At the end of the hand-out will read a popular Strawberry Shortcake quote: “Life is Delicious!”.
The party was mid-afternoon to avoid having to cook a meal. Before the cake I served fresh strawberries with toothpicks white chocolate (dyed yellow using food coloring) covered pretzel sticks with yellow M&Ms stuck to them in a line and M&M’s separated out in dishes of yellow red and green.
Party Games and Activities
Once everyone has located their hat sash and blow-out all will line up near the birthday girl’s swing set where the birthday girl’s Daddy and she (birthday girl will be on Daddy’s shoulders!) will come out from nowhere to form the parade where the birthday girl will be the Grand Marshall and parade around her background with her Daddy and friends.
All of her little friends will parade in the back of her Daddy and will dance, blow their blow-outs and clap to the music of Strawberry Shortcake and the “A Berry Happy Birthday” song provided from the internet.
After lunch, there will be activities including playing with a pastel ball which is the birthday girl’s favorite activity or playing on the birthday girl’s swingset or coloring Strawberry Shortcake images at the Activity Table or finally playing “Place the Strawberry” on Strawberry Shortcake’s nose.
Once all have participated that would like to participate all will receive a Welch’s fruit pack to snack on before the individual little Birthday strawberry shortcake cupcakes arrive with individual Strawberry sundae cups.
Party Costumes
The night before the party the whole family made yellow tie-dyed t-shirts. I found cheap white t-shirts at a craft store and using bright yellow fabric dye and lots of rubber bands we all created individual “suns” on our shirts. Some were just single suns, others had circles all over their shirts. Everyone wore their shirts quite willingly for the party and it made the pictures turn out really cute.
I couldn’t find party hats I liked so I made my own strawberry-inspired party hats using plain red cone hats black duct tape cut out with a tear-drop hole punch for the seeds and green tissue paper sprouting out the top for the leaves. The birthday girl was already wearing a strawberry themed dress so her hat was plain yellow with a “2” on it one a scalloped white circle.
Party Invitations
If you are interested in something fancy that can be hand-delivered to your guests, head to your local craft store and purchase simple straw hats that you decorate with fabric strawberries and pink and red ribbon. Inside the hats, ask your guests to attend your Strawberry Shortcake Party for a Berry Great Girl! Make sure to request that your guests wear their straw hats to your party.
