When it comes to Christmas, Mr. Grinch is known for being green, unpleasant, and a huge downer. But you may not recall that, in the end, the Grinch’s heart grows three sizes and he comes to love Christmas.
The ultimate party theme is a Grinch Christmas bash. Like The Grinch stole Christmas in Dr. Seuss’ classic, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, it will capture the attention of all your party guests. You’ll throw the most green and mean Christmas party ever with these Grinch Party Ideas!
The Grinch Party Ideas
The Grinch is one of our all-time favorite holiday films. Every year, we watch it with the kids, and it never ceases to amaze us.
The Dr. Seuss persona has been popularized in books and films for decades. He’s become a Christmas icon, usually grumpy about the joyous occasion, but the Grinch eventually warms up.
Everything here is a terrific opportunity for fans of the narrative to come up with some interesting holiday ideas. Even if you use our Grinch party ideas and supplies, you won’t be a meanie this holiday season.
The Grinch Party Decorations
Unless you’re the Grinch, a greener and meaner version of Santa, it’s difficult to steal the show from him. We’ve taken a leaf from Dr. Seuss for a modern twist on the classic tale with Grinch theme party supplies.
These “awfully fantastic” decorations and party materials are just what you need to hatch up a holiday celebration with green at its center, as The Grinch would say.
Everything is green!
In your Christmas Grinch decorations, it’s all about the shade of green. Throughout your space, use strong green decorations in the same shade as your favorite leaf.
Balloons are a low-cost and simple approach to complete the task. Make a Grinch-green holiday balloon wreath if you’re feeling a burst of energy as your heart swells three sizes.
A balloon decoration strip, a package of lime green latex balloons, and a healthy set of lungs are all you need.
Grinch cardboard cutout
Presentation is crucial when it comes to any decorating motif. A life-size Grinch cardboard cutout peeking out from the fireplace, a reference to the Grinch’s attempt to put an end to Christmas in whatever way he can, makes a reference to holiday planning.
Christmas tree
Without a mention to Whoville, where Christmas trees sag, bend, and come to an odd Seussian point, Grinch decorations would be incomplete.
You may get the same effect by tying evergreen branches to a slender fir and bending the branches downward into the Whoville curve. The finishing touch on this Dr. A Seuss-worthy Christmas tree is a huge star tree topper.
The Grinch Party Cakes
The Grinch is a great Christmas party theme, and this Merry Grinch-mas green Grinch Cake will be the talk of the party!
Print out the face, then cover it with wax paper and pipe it with black, red, and yellow buttercream. Freeze the buttercream transfer image before pressing it on the cake and peeling away the wax paper. It worked out quite well.
The Grinch Party Games & Activities
This Christmas, are you feeling like the Grinch? Then put on your Santa hat and join us at the bottom of the mountain for Whoville’s best Grinch party games.
Remove the Tree
The Grinches in this party game rob the tree of its decorations instead of decorating it. You’ll need two miniature Christmas trees to play.
Divide the players into two teams and decorate both trees. Have them line up and compete in a relay race, removing one ornament from the tree at a time.
The first team to completely strip its tree of its leaves wins.
Steal the Presents
Split the kids into two groups. Give each team a sled, a pair of antlers, and a pile of goodies.
To portray the Grinch bringing the sled of gifts up the mountain, the teams must race one member at a time to wear the antlers (like Max), load a gift on the sled, and run it through an obstacle course.
If a present comes off the sled during the process, the player must restart from the beginning. The team that “steals” all of the gifts and gets them to the finish line first wins.
The Grinch’s Silly Song
Make copies of the Grinch song with blank areas where some of the lyrics should be. Print them out and distribute them to the children.
For each space, call out something for them to fill in (e.g., adjective, noun, verb). When the youngsters are finished, have them sing their new renditions of the song.
Grinch Heart Hunt
To play this game, each participant must build three hearts of varying sizes (because his heart grew three sizes). Disperse them across the party space.
Set a timer and inform the players they have until the end of the game to find one duplicate of each of the three heart sizes.
