Need a fun theme for this year’s birthday party? Try a black and white party filled with black and white treats, black and white party games, and even some awesome black and white party decorations! This guide will give you everything you need to host one incredible black and white birthday party ever!
Party Decorations
Because there are so many objects available in these hues, decorating with black and white is simple (plates, napkins, candles, table cloths, etc.). You can add a splash of color (like lime green or neon pink) or use a zebra pattern as the base for your black and white if you want to put a variation to the theme.
To make all of your tables look the same, cover them in black and white tablecloths. When utilizing an all-over color scheme like this one, covering the entire space in those hues brings the whole thing together.
Metallic silver and black curtains cover windows and serve as a backdrop for the walls. Large white candelabras provide light and are tall enough to serve as table centerpieces while allowing everyone to see each other.
Hanging black strips from the ceiling with dangling silver stars adds extra stars and sparkle. The light is reflected by the stars when little white Christmas lights are placed between the strips.
The 12″ broad strips include wooden dowels at either end that may be strung from hooks or a drapery rod to span the ceiling. Using the same hooks/drapery rod as the strips, the twinkle lights are draped between each strip.
You might also add interest to the ceiling by draping black fabric across it. It’s less dramatic (which could be what you want), but it’s also less labor than hanging the ceiling strips. Simply hang hooks in the ceiling’s center and at the corners where the cloth will be draped, and loop the fabric over them.
Hang mini-silver mirror balls and tea light candles in terrarium candle holders from the chandelier for a floaty centerpiece. To keep the thread from becoming too hot and breaking, use flameless tea lights. The heat from the candle did not destroy the strings in this example since the 6′′ circular candle holders were large enough.
For a black and white party, you’ll need black and white party decorations. Start with balloons and streamers in black and white. Depending on the size of your party space, you can set up balloon bouquets, a little balloon arch, or another form of arrangement. With black and white, silver is a beautiful accent color, so try including some silver balloons in your arrangements.
Place white candles on mirrors and scatter black and white confetti around the mirror for an elegant appearance if you intend on having table centerpieces. Fill square vases with white roses or lilies and place black stones in the bottom.
Party Dress Code Ideas
Make your black and white party a semi-black tie occasion. Make guests wear their best black and white outfits. Ladies can wear black and/or white cocktail dresses, while gentlemen can wear beautiful black slacks and a white button down shirt. If you don’t want your party to be too formal, tell your attendees that all black or all white is preferred (you can even designate men to wear all black and women to wear all white – or vice versa).
Party Food Ideas
Make your party’s food and beverages as black and white as possible. An excellent appetizer is black bean dip with white tortilla chips. Serve pasta alfredo, blackened chicken, rye or marble bread finger sandwiches, etc. as the main course.
Black and white cookies, layered parfaits, cupcakes, whoopie pies, and a delectable black forest cake are all good options for dessert. Cocktails such as chocolate martinis, mudslides, and white Russians are also excellent choices for a black and white party.
Also, the dessert and candy buffet table is so very elegant and filled with the most incredible treats. The beautiful cake is front and center, with handmade fondant flowers and a black fondant ribbon. Other treats include black and white rock candies, stunning black and white swirled cake pops, and glass jars filled with black M&Ms. I love the subtle pop of color from the small bouquets of fresh flowers.
Party Invitations
To inform your guests about the party’s theme, send them black and white invites. Make sure to tell your guests what they should wear (ie all white, all black, a combination, etc.). You can also specify whether or not you want attendees to bring a dish on your invitation. If you wish to have people sign up to contribute food, Punchbowl’s Potluck option is perfect.

Birthday Cake Ideas
Serve your guests their own personal cake at your next birthday party. The pinstripe miniature cakes are bigger than a cupcake but smaller than a traditional cake. Plus, these black pinstripes and fondant bow makes it a perfect match for your black and white themed party. Serve them on matching platters or trays to make a big statement.
Alternatively, keep desert classic with these beautifully simple black and white mini cupcakes. Rich and cakey dark chocolate cupcakes are topped with a swirl of vanilla buttercream topped with adorable fondant flowers and silver ball sprinkles. Tie everything together with some shiny silver cupcake wrappers for a classically elegant dessert.
Party Favor Ideas
Finally, getting small, square black boxes (the size of a ring box) and filling them with white chocolates is a simple idea for black and white party favors. Black and white M&Ms or Hershey kisses might alternatively be used to fill clear plastic goody bags or martini glasses.
