Hello there, readers! Please come back to see me. My friend, Melissa, had a birthday celebration for her daughter a few months ago. She knows how to stretch a dollar like no one else. Well, she did it again this weekend with the Woodland Fairy Party she arranged for her daughter, and she’s here to tell you all about it.
Read on to find out the answer to your concerns!
Our youngest daughter turned three over the weekend!
She loves watching Tinkerbell on her elder sister’s DVD and asked me in February if she could have a fairy party. Of course, I am capable of doing so. Samantha, on the other hand, is not a girly girl, so I needed to shake things up a bit and went with a Woodland Fairy Party theme.
I knew right immediately that I’d be incorporating pieces from our yard/woods into the party’s decor. If you’ve been to one of my events, you know that cost is highly important to me, but so is quality.
I enjoy the challenge of planning and executing a top-notch party on a not-so-top-notch budget. I couldn’t stop myself once my wheels started moving on this one!
Before buying anything, I always jot down all of my ideas in a notepad and brainstorm. Impulse purchases can be costly and time-consuming. A regular trip to our neighborhood Christmas Tree Shop inspired me to use more natural colors for the party.
Greens, yellows, oranges, and reds dominate the palette. For $2.49 a piece, I found these lovely large butterflies and flowers (granted it was 3 months until her party).
I got the idea for these brown “natural” looking mushrooms after another trip to the Dollar Tree. I had the notion to utilize these moss planters for both mushroom tops and snack bowls.
I hot glued two Dollar Tree plastic pots together, topped it with another Dollar Tree Moss bowl, and there you have it! The red mushrooms had the same “stems,” but I made mushroom tops out of our wooden salad dish set. I’m not sure why I had these on our wedding registry.
My first plan was to get fairy wings from Dollar Tree and “glam them up” with flowers and ribbons. Cost was an issue because just 15 girls were invited. After failing to find anything at more than four Dollar Tree locations, I looked to Ebay, Etsy, and other sources.
I finally found a nice quality wing for a reasonable price, and then added Dollar Tree flowers and ribbon at Pick your Plum last fall to make them more “woodsy”.They were $5 a pair, but the fairy goodie bags were the real deal.
I made the fairy “crowns” out of pipe cleaners, Dollar Tree flowers, and leftover Christmas curling ribbon. I made these for less than a quarter each.
Keeping young kids entertained at a party can be difficult at times. At every one time, you require a choice of options.
One of the activities was a Fairy Reading read by an older fairy (I recruited three young girls from our Church to assist out at the party so I could spend more time with the birthday child and drink it all in), and I wanted the story area to have that Mushroom Grotto vibe to it.
I looked everywhere for small red cushions to make toadstools, but everything was out of my price range — so I went to IKEA and bought red round mouse pads, added my own “spots,” and voila! Toadstool pads for them to sit on in the mushroom grotto! Each component costs $.99.
They had so much fun playing instruments and “flying” around the yard to wake up the beautiful forest in a fairy parade.
Paint your own fairy house with woodland crafts for the girls. At Michael’s, each house was $1.00, and I bought a lot of them. My husband, The Woodsman, sanded and cut wooden plaques for them to paint.
The cake stands were built by my husband out of items found in our yard. There was no cost! I found the “fairy” house in the woods and embellished it with items found in the yard. It didn’t cost anything.
Fairy Houses – I got two bird houses on sale at Michaels Craft Store and converted them into “for rent” fairy houses.
