Do you have a child whose birthday falls with the holiday season? It’s difficult to think of ways to honor your child and make them feel special while dealing with the chaos that the holiday season brings.
I’ve got some fantastic advice for juggling holiday birthdays and making sure your child feels seen and celebrated during this hectic time on today’s episode!
First and foremost, there is the birthday. There are just a few times in your child’s life when everything revolves around them. Yes, it seems like everything revolves around them, but birthdays are their day.
They get all the attention, they get to be in the spotlight, and they get to be recognized in a unique way. The holidays last all year, however a birthday is only celebrated once! Recognize it.
Children want consistency, so if your child has a party planned that they are looking forward to, go ahead and plan it.
Although it will be a family gathering, you may nevertheless turn your home into a flower-filled garden or bring the boho adventure feelings to your backyard!
Decorate a little (this is a great opportunity to support some small stores and mom-and-pop shops on Etsy! ), offer their favorite food (support your favorite burger spot by ordering takeout! ), bring out the cake, and have a good time!
It’s a simpler celebration for simpler times, yet it’s nonetheless memorable. When it comes to bringing the party to your home, you simply need to be a little more inventive. What can you utilize as a decorative element? There are numerous items in your home that can be repurposed.
First and first, go shopping for your child’s room.
Most likely, they selected a party theme that they adore. This indicates that they have toys and other stuff in their room/playroom that correspond to the theme!
Decorate your party with those products. Add firetrucks to the cake table, hang a birthday banner from the ladder with a little bunting, use a toy castle or dollhouse for height, and serve cupcakes for a unique twist.
They’ll be ecstatic to see some of their favorite things at their celebration as well! Table linens are made from blankets or sheets. Start exploring your house with a laundry basket. You’ll be surprised at what you can find to throw a cute party!
Palm to Pine Design has also designed a stunning birthday banner. “HONK!” yard flags are available for purchase to hang outside your home. “It’s My Special Day!” exclaims the narrator. These are adorable, may be themed to whatever you choose (match them to your Party Plan! ), and add a particular touch to the day/week.
Make a Birthday Tree
Okay, here’s a fun concept that will take a little more time and effort… However, it is possible that it will be a lot of fun. You know how when you’re decorating your Christmas tree, there’s always one side that doesn’t receive anything because it’s against a wall or a corner?
What if you made a birthday tree out of that? Photos of your child, streamers, and small toys they enjoy, such as Hot Wheels or Barbie clothing, are all good ideas. OR use the party theme décor to dress it up! For a princess party, hang a firetruck garland or add crowns and accessories.
So, when they’ve gone to bed, or while you’re getting ready for the party, spin the tree to the blank side and celebrate that baby’s birthday! It’s possible that this is a completely absurd notion.
I think it has the potential to be a really fun new tradition for your child to look forward to, as well as a check in the “I’m not worried about holiday decor” box because you’re making it work for YOU!
Party Dessert Table
Flowers hung from the ceiling and wood. That’s the look I was going for with the dessert table. With the accent on the cake, it’s rustic but feminine.
Remember how Donna sketched a picture of her cake for me earlier? That’s exactly what I got from Krysten with Lucy and Lemons: vanilla with flowers all over the top. She also made the prettiest floral buttercream sugar cookies you’ve ever seen!
So creative and delectable! I was a little apprehensive about making the floral hoops, but I was pleasantly surprised at how simple they were to make!
I appreciate how they’re all unique but complement each other so beautifully. Hanging in front of the artificial wood backdrop, they looked very stunning!
Party Games and Activities
Cherry is a big fan of arts and crafts. One of my favorite aspects of her is that she is almost constantly working on something new. I wanted a space where the kids could create.
It was fantastic since it provided much-needed shade on a hot July day! On the table, I had paper, paint, foam stickers, clay, markers, glitter, and other materials.
They painted with flowers, constructed mosaics, painted their own flowers, and so much more. It was so much pleasure to witness their small works of art!
Lots more flower party activity ideas are defined and included in the Flower Party Plan, along with supply lists to purchase right from your plan!
Things You Need to Consider
Make the party a few weeks before the seasonal craziness begins! You’ll have a far higher chance of getting guests, and you’ll be able to put off the decor if you get there early enough.
The same may be said for throwing a party after the holidays, when things have calmed down. I understand that this isn’t the best plan for your child, but at the end of the day, kids want to celebrate.
They want to see their friends, have a good time, and be seen. It gives them a sense of being seen and heard, which is the most essential thing to a child. So they’ll still get it, and they’ll also get something special on their real date, so that’s not forgotten.
Send out invitations early in advance if you wish to have the celebration close to the actual birthday date. That way, most guests will have enough time to mark it on their calendars and give you first dibs on the date!
Because you’ll be getting a lot of mail during the holidays, make your invitations stand out by using a brightly colored envelope.
