I have a six-year-old daughter. When a tiny girl tells someone her age, she now raises her entire hand. A hand’s worth of age! What happened, and when did it happen? And I’m quite sure I didn’t grant them permission to do so.
Cherry is, without a doubt, the coolest girl I’ve ever met. She is my best friend. She is creative, humorous, kind, patient, and brilliant. Every day, I thank the universe for blessing me with the opportunity to be her mother.
My daughter adores flowers. She managed to teach herself the names of a large number of flowers. She can identify flowers just by looking at them. It’s insane…especially since I’m the worst gardener on the planet. She’s a poor girl.
When I asked her what kind of 6th birthday she wanted, she responded with flowers right away and then started planning her party.
She drew a picture of her flower cake, informed me about the activities she planned to undertake with her friends, and expressed her desire for a flower crown. My little party-planning heart had obviously burst into a thousand flower petals.
This party has the potential to be one of my favorites. I think it turned out lovely, and I had a good time, but this was the first party I organized with my daughter.
She had complete control over what happened and provided her seal of approval to the plan, which included this lovely gown and crown she chose to wear on her special day.
Cherry and I co-hosted a flower birthday celebration to celebrate her big 6th birthday, and I’m so pleased to share the highlights and behind-the-scenes information with you.
Party Invitations
For this party, I knew I wanted to do something different. After all, six is a special birthday! Who doesn’t like flowers? Cherry was overjoyed at the prospect of passing out these invitations to her pals. I went to our local supermarket and purchased a few flowers by the stem that suited the motif and wrapped them in kraft paper.
After I finished all of the bundles, I attached a sweet tag from Palm to Pine Design with the party details. They turned out adorable and were completely unique, as well as a normal invitation that fit the concept that I could mail to any guests we didn’t see on a frequent basis.
I spend the majority of my party time and money on decor. That holds true at any party I throw. The decor, in my opinion, is what produces the beautiful moments.
It’s what I recall, and each little party space has its own decor and narrative to tell. What’ll be my first stop? Dollar Spot at Target. Always. It’s as if Target knows who I am and what subjects I’m working on right now.
I strolled into Target about a week after finishing the Flower Party Plan to find fresh blooms and garden related products ripe for the picking!
Doesn’t it feel like you’ve won the lotto when Target has exactly what you’re looking for? What makes them think that? Both the cake plates (which are to die for!) and the wood planter boxes were found in the dollar area! Perfection.
DIY Flower Letter
In the Flower Party Plan, I’ve highlighted a few distinct floral themed decor options. I almost didn’t make a flower letter since I had other ideas for the thousands of fake flowers I purchased with JoAnn Fabric and Michael’s 60% off coupons.
But then Cherry requested if she could have an E with flowers on it to hang on her door after the party, so out came the glue gun!
It was a joy to construct this DIY flower letter, and I absolutely love how it turned out. The plan includes a complete tutorial and supply list (as well as links to pre-made versions)!
The trick, in my opinion, is to pick a color scheme and stay with it. My pile included some brilliant pinks and larger corals that didn’t quite fit. Simply try a new combination, and the winner will emerge!
Wall of Photographs
I enjoy using photos of my children in their birthday celebrations. I adore seeing how they’ve progressed and celebrating any achievements from the previous year!
I had a friend design me a sign that said “with grace in her heart and flowers in her hair” to put in the center of the photo board because I think that saying perfectly depicts my child.
Floral Garlands to Hang
When it comes to the parties I throw, I’ve noticed a pattern. I always loathe myself when I take on a labor of love project…until I see them sparkling in all their DIY brilliance, and then I love myself. Those floral garlands that hang from the ceiling? It was a labor of love for the flower party.
The princess party had princess dress paper garlands, the puppy party had handcrafted dog ear headbands, Hudson’s 1st had moss wild one letters, and so on.
But then I remember those events, and those decorations are my absolute favorite! Isn’t that typical? Simply gather a million artificial flowers (clip coupons and download craft store apps for more!) and chop away.
Lady, turn on your favorite TV, pour yourself a glass of rose, and get to stringing. Will you use the glue gun to burn your fingers? Yes. Will they look amazing and provide a wonderful backdrop for your event? Yes, as well. It’s well worth it to avoid fingerprints.
The Flower Party Plan includes a full video guide as well as supply lists. To see how all of the strings looked combined in my yard, scroll down. When I saw them all dangling there, I had no words.
