I threw a Courage the Cowardly Dog-themed birthday supper for my child. We used to watch a lot of cartoons together, and Courage the Cowardly Dog was always his favorite. I thought it would be fun to surprise him with a Courage the Cowardly Dog-themed meal for his birthday this year.
Party Decorations
Because there are so many colors and characters in Courage, I opted to keep everything in one color scheme, green and purple, based on Eustace’s mask and the lilac colour of Courage’s fur.
I wanted to make a sign out of white matte cardboard and purple glitter cardstock that said “The things I do for love!” because it’s Courage’s slogan on the program.
These personalized Courage plates were created by me! I bought green plastic cups and then used a glue gun to adhere glitter cardstock to the tops.
I bought these apple green cupcake liners and constructed the toppers out of lollipop sticks, purple glitter cardboard, and printouts of the show’s three major characters, Courage, Eustace, and Muriel. Because my brother enjoys lemon, I made lemon cupcakes.
Party Foods
We’ve got you covered with all the kids’ birthday food ideas you’ll need, whether you’re looking for no-fuss finger food or show-stopping healthy platters. If you’re on a budget and need ideas for what to serve at your child’s party, or if you’re willing to go beyond, we’ve got recipes and ideas for you, as well as recommendations for planning and prepping ahead of time.
Sausage rolls
A kids’ party classic. You can also make alternative versions with veggie sausages or a sausage mix.
Mini pizzas
If you don’t feel like making the pizza dough from scratch, you can try using naan bread, crumpets or pittas. Alternatively, you can make pizza pinwheels, if you’re feeling really fancy.
Party sandwiches
Remember to keep the combinations simple, like grated mild cheddar and ham. Small children also like sandwiches cut into shapes with biscuit cutters, if you can be bothered.
Cucumber and Carrot Batons
Aim to include some healthy snacks as part of the party food spread. Carrot and cucumber batons are a great option and most kids love them! Add a side of sour cream or hummus as a yummy dip for them too.
Fruity Ice Cream
This fruity and refreshing ice cream makes for a delicious party food, especially on hot summer days.
The fruit inside means it’s a little healthier than chocolate or vanilla ice cream, too. Serve with berries on top, a sprig of mint, or a wafer.
