Are you looking for fun winter birthday party ideas? We’ve got it! Winter birthdays often receive the short end of the stick because they compete with national holidays and are subject to inclement weather.
While winter babies grow accustomed to it, combining holiday and birthday presents might be a chore. This is why throwing a winter birthday celebration that will go down in history is such an exciting concept. All you need are some fantastic winter birthday party ideas and a fantastic location.
Indoor Winter Birthday Party Ideas
Growing up with a winter birthday can be hard if you prefer parties that include sunshine, pools, and floaties. But having a winter birthday doesn’t mean you have to be frosty. In fact, some of the best party themes are oriented around winter.
Things like snowflake balls and sledding parties can be magical affairs — and even more fun than summer birthdays. To help you plan the coolest wintertime celebration, try this list of winter birthday party ideas.
Party Decorations
When choosing a location for your winter party, there are a few things to consider. The weather will, of course, dictate the sites, but there are lots of thrilling and entertaining possibilities. These are the first things I think about while planning an indoor winter birthday party.
Tree Trimming
Just go for it! Hang a garland made of cotton puffs from your ceiling and decorate with snowflakes. Invite guests to participate in an ornament-painting activity or, better yet, invite them to bring an ornament to display on your tree. After all, it’s your holiday-themed birthday bash! Serve festive appetizers and piles of sweets on the menu. Serve spiked eggnog and peppermint cocktails as drinks.
Indoor Camping Party
Camping might not be the first thing that comes to mind when considering winter birthday party ideas, but consider how much fun it would be for older children.
With teepees, loads of fake vegetation, and a fake fire pit, you can turn your living room into a camping place. Make some delicious marshmallows, sip hot chocolate, and snack on camping-themed treats.
Close the curtains, dim the lights, use a star light projector to create a starry sky, and have the kids tell spooky stories around a faux indoor campfire to make it even more memorable.
What a fantastic winter birthday celebration for kids that will make them eagerly anticipate the arrival of the better weather!
Bonfire
This isn’t any old fire circle: we’re talking about a towering, raging photo op of a bonfire! Cooking, of course, should happen over a smaller fire and should be a small step above typical camping fare. Grill meat or meat alternatives, veggie kabobs, and foil pans of O’Brien potatoes as the entree. For dessert, how about you serve sugar cones filled with fruit, marshmallows, and mini chocolate chips? It’s a fun take on the obvious s’mores campfire dessert.
There’s nothing better than singing around a fire, so musically inclined friends can be encouraged to bring guitars.
Photo Booth and Ops
Kids and adults alike can have hours of fun with a DIY photo booth. Just hang a backdrop and some decorations and make sure you have plenty of props for them to use. Get a Polaroid camera to send the kids home with their photos or print them off and distribute them at a later date!
Party Games & Activities
It’s much more difficult to come up with exciting and unusual party activities to keep your guests entertained throughout the winter. Fortunately, throwing a memorable party for your kids doesn’t require renting out a large location, spending your life savings, or destroying your home!
Slumber
Slumber parties are the ultimate indoor activity, and you can make them really special. Make sure each child has their own place to sleep, whether you set up little tents or inflatable mattresses. Cover them with lots of pillows, blankets, and other cozy items to really set the tone for the party.
Gingerbread Decorating
For kids that have birthdays before the Christmas holidays, consider a gingerbread decorating party. You can make your own or buy small gingerbread-making kits for each guest. You could even have a competition and a prize for the best gingerbread house!
Movie Night
If you want to keep the kids at the party quiet and out of trouble, the best way to do that is with a movie night. Let the birthday boy or girl pick the movie, then provide lots of snacks and movie-themed decorations to really set the atmosphere.
Tote Bag Decorating
Encourage the children’s creative side by having them decorate their own tote bags. You can buy plain tote bags for fairly cheap at craft stores or online, and they can decorate them with paint, markers, glitter, and other craft supplies. You can also do a similar thing with t-shirts.
Painting Party
You don’t need to be an artist to have a great painting party for your kids. To keep things more under control, give the kids a template to work from so they have a finished product to focus on. Also provide them with a canvas, plastic aprons, and paint supplies, and make sure they don’t show up in their best clothes.
