I’ve been a hopeless romantic since I was a tiny child. My friends and I used to fantasize about their ideal wedding and how lavish it would be when we were younger. The gown, the location, and the celebration were all meticulously planned and accomplished.
My ideal wedding was never planned by me. ‘I don’t care what the wedding is like, I care more about who I’m going to marry,’ I simply stated to my pals, my eyes filled with stars.
I was anxious about not going into debt for the wedding. I’ve always thought it was a little silly to spend months (or years) and thousands of dollars (not to mention the stress) planning an event that would only last a few hours.
This is simply my viewpoint. More power to you if you’ve succeeded! This is not an option for me because I am far too lazy and cheap. Thank you to my friends and family who thoughtfully planned lovely weddings and invited me!
Attending weddings is one of my favorite activities. I’ve never felt compelled to go above and above for my own benefit. Because our circumstances were unusual when we married, it is likely that this influenced the way we did things, but I wouldn’t alter a thing!
My father, who is quite conservative, gave us $700 if we married within the following two months. My parents have always expressed a desire for me to elope, so that was the original plan.
My Wedding Party Ideas
My best friend couldn’t make it during the periods our venue was available, which is one of the reasons I dropped the Disney concept. I wasn’t planning on having a large wedding, but I planned on inviting my best friend.
I mentioned some ideas to her, and she graciously agreed to let us marry in her backyard. The grass looked lovely and green, and the flowers were all in bloom when we got married on Memorial Day weekend.
After discussing it with my spouse and family members who would have to travel to her home, I decided on a backyard wedding.
The wedding took place in the front yard, followed by a celebration in the backyard. The food was made and served inside the house before being taken outside to dine.
My acquaintance knew of a local rental firm where we were able to get a decent bargain on tables and chairs that were delivered on the wedding day. I think the cost per chair was around $2?
Wedding Food Ideas
Chicken Curry is one of my all-time favorites. My grandma learned to cook it as a missionary in Africa many years ago, although not the customary spicy kind from India. We don’t eat it as frequently now that she’s retired, so I asked for it as our wedding dinner.
This curry starts with white sticky rice, then adds chicken, curry sauce, and cooked eggs, followed by any toppings you can think of. In the future, I’ll have to make a post about this.
My mother and aunt worked together on this, and it turned out great. We labeled everything with nice tiny blackboard signs from Hobby Lobby, and we used some rustic-looking displays from Sam’s Club.
We drank tea and water, then my mother-in-law made the loveliest little ice cream sundae bar for dessert! The ice cream was served in little mason jars with a variety of toppings.
My sister is an excellent cake baker and decorator who has been doing so as a pastime for several years. We tried some Publix cake before deciding to have her make it. It was fantastic! My spouse especially enjoyed the chocolate eclair filling on the top tier.
An Easy and Simple Wedding Theme
Burlap and the ‘rustic’ aesthetic have been extremely fashionable in recent years, so it can be found almost wherever. Hobby Lobby and even the dollar store had a lot of cute and economical decorations.
We bought plenty of mason jars to use as table centerpieces and drinking glasses. The drinking glasses were engraved with the names of the guests and functioned as a wedding favor as well.
We draped burlap over the tables, wrapped it around the cake, and tied burlap bows to the archway where we were married. Sam’s Club plates and silverware were clear plastic.
Because my wedding was in the spring, the flowers that were available were stunning and ideal for our special day! We spent $100 on ten vividly colored wildflower and sunflower bouquets. We returned home and created bouquets for myself and my two bridesmaids.
Limited Guests
It’s possible that this will become a complicated situation. Because everything happened so quickly, we didn’t tell many people about the wedding.
I didn’t invite a lot of family because they are all over the country and would have had to fly on such short notice. The majority of them handled it admirably. There was one case where a member of James’ family took it upon themselves to invite another family member.
Keep in mind that if your parents are paying for your wedding and want to invite their coworkers and neighbors, you should let them! However, if the money is coming from your own pocket, you should have the last say.
Allowing your relatives to pressurize you into asking people who aren’t required to attend is not a good idea. They’ll overcome their adversity.
There were probably less than 35 persons in attendance. This included the officiant and our event planner . I’d love to throw a party in the future where I can invite everyone I really want.
